If you've chat-RPed (if you haven't, do it, otherwise, what's the point of having read thus far?), you might have noticed how some of the older vampires think.

Big deal, right? Nuuuuu.

Thoughts can be as important as words in some scenarios, allowing us to see inside the character's mind.

Non-fledgling vampires can also do cool things with their minds, such as mindlinking and thought-protection. And because this is chat-RP, therefore more fast-paced than forum-RPing, we've developped a "code" of sorts to indicate which kind of thought is being used.

The first, and most basic thoughts (belonging to humans and only the youngest, weakest and stupidest vampires) are put between <> brackets.

For example...
<Varilis> <I can't believe he just did that.>

Those thoughts are open for anyone who has even the most basic mental training to read. Human thinks, vampire hears, vampire bites. Pretty basic.

The second "level" of thought is a protected thought, belonging to all vampires and the most skilled human telepathics. They are put in double <> brackets.

Such as...
<Anya`> <<Stupid brother, always on my case!>>

No one but an Ancient can hear those, and don't worry; odds are that you aren't an Ancient. If a character thinks in double <>, it's because he or she wants you (the player) to know what his or her character is thinking, but not your character.

The most powerful thoughts belong to the Ancients, who think privately in triple <> brackets.

<Marcellus> <<<I've missed her so much.>>>

No one can read these, not even the other Ancients.

Now you know how to think as a vampire in a chat-RP. Huzzah! Now, onto the fun stuff.

Mindlinking.

Which is basically speaking through thought. A bit more private than open-speech, though, which makes it very popular amongst lovers.

First "level" mindlinking is written between ~~'s (whatever those are XD).

<Myrista> ~I need to feed.~

Equivalent to the spoken word, a simple mindlink can be heard by anyone who can guard their thoughts (double <> brackets).

The next step is guarding your mindlink. This comes along when the flegling is taught how to guard their regular thoughts.

<Léonce> ~<<Go away, I'm busy right now.>>~

The thought is directed to a particular person (or persons, if you're just that good), and cannot be heard by another (with, of course, the exception of the Ancients).

After that, there's is Ancient mindlinking, which follows the same pattern.

<Amarante> ~<<<Please don't leave!>>>~

But we already know that you're not an Ancient, so don't worry about this one. Just know that you'll never be able to hear that, unless it's directed towards you (....character-you).

And that's all there is to it.
