Occasionally a vampire will make use of blood bonding on a mortal. This is similar to making them a vampire, except the change is not complete.
The process is like making, but not enough blood is taken from the mortal to kill them, and not enough blood is returned to change them. The human is no longer able to eat or drink, except blood. They can walk in the daylight, but the light hurts them.
It is unclear whether the human would still be mortal or prone to sickness.
Blood bonding appears to wear away after a while.
A vampire might blood bond a human to be their companion or to save their life. Saving their life could be part of companionship or to keep them alive to feed off of for a while.
The process is touchy, i.e., too much blood and the human would become a vampire.
